Outside Edinburgh City Chambers

The courtyard outside Edinburgh City Chambers is the starting point for free, guided walking tours of heritage and historical spots along the Royal Mile. 

Trained local guides from the Edinburgh Festival Voluntary Guides Association will tell you about the history and the colourful characters and stories that have made Edinburgh a renowned World Heritage site.

Guides are local people with a great enthusiasm for the city and its history, and who love to share their knowledge. The Association members have enjoyed the company of many visitors since we began in 1947.

Royal Mile Tours are in-person and online. 

Tours start at 10 am and 2 pm every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9-27 August.
