Probably the most spectacular beach in East Lothian, Gullane is a long, sandy beach with an extensive, dune system covered in grass and buckthorn bush, within which you can shield yourself from the elements should you need to. From the car park you have to walk down through a corridor of dunes. Gullane itself is like a showcase village, surrounded by golf courses (including nearby Muirhouse).
The beach is popular with families with pony and horse riding, ball playing, kite flying, and such like. Water quality is considered good with the beach consistently recommended by the Marine Conservancy Society (MCS). Good local fish 'n' chip shop.
Gullane is 20 miles East of Edinburgh by road (A198) and 5 miles West of another picturesque seaside town North Berwick.
