About the venue

Impressive neo-classical mansion, 16 miles or so from central Edinburgh, set in 5,000 acres of combined coast and parkland in East Lothian.

Gosford House, the seat of the Earls of Wemyss and March, was one of the last major architectural commissions of the celebrated Scots architect Robert Adam.

The building was completed in 1800, eight years after the architect’s death. Its original wings were demolished, only to be rebuilt in 1891, with an impressive Marble Hall in the south wing which rises to a height of three storeys with a double staircase leading to a surrounding picture gallery.

During WWII, the house was used by the army, during which time it was damaged by a fire and by the occupants. Most of the artefacts and artwork survived but conservation has since remained a priority.

The venue is available for hire for weddings, functions and corporate events.

Gosford also hosts incentive group and corporate activities, Gosford Games, which vary from whisky tasting to clay pigeon shooting, falconry to guided nature walks.

During Spring and Summer Gosford hosts tours around the house and grounds.

Walking in Gosford Estate

The large wooded grounds have many footpaths and historical features including a pyramid-like mausoleum built in 1795, stone bridges and walls, pond with ornamental features, and of course the stately house itself.

There's a café at the Gosford Bothy Farm Shop.

Access to walk within Gosford Policies requires a permit.
