Dark Heart by name, but the quality of new writing shines through a young American cast. With the main character, Emma, an in-patient in a mental health institution following the death of her sister and a very new score, it was a challenge to hold the attention of the audience.

Some good direction and movement ensures the ensemble play the mix of students, with all the attributes of friends and so-called friends, really well. The one male character is portrayed as pretty shallow and I'm not sure why a token guy was included, but that's no criticism of the actor.

There are good performances from cast members playing Emma, her dead sister (who is there in spirit) and the psychiatrist.

The music includes a number of tuneful songs although some that carry the story are less so.

The diction of the performers is excellent which is vital in telling the story of Emma's coming to terms with the death of her sister and laying her demons to rest.

It's a difficult subject that is handled well and the quality of the songs was a bonus.
