Description

In the run-up to Scotland's national day St Andrew's Day, Edinburgh sees four-days of family events centred on St Andrew Square Gardens (update: cancelled due to snow), climaxing with a St Andrew's Day Ceilidh on 30th (update: cancelled due to snow) and St Andrew's Day Debate at the Scottish Parliament.

Over the four days there is a programme of workshops, under canvas, for all the family. Just turn up and take part. It's free.

  • Make puppets, hats, lamps, and flags: Make your own Tam O’Shanter, Scottie dog puppet or highland coo puppet, or design your own Christmas lantern or saltire.
  • Dance Lessons: Covering traditional highland to contemporary street
  • Scottish Storytelling and Poetry: Costumed characters will be bringing old tales of Burke and Hare or ‘Half Hangit Maggie’ to life. People's fave Big Rory will also be appearing.

Previous St Andrew's Do's

In 2009, the Do showcased Scotland's achievements, key historical events and famous Scots; Scotland's ambitions and innovation, including science labs, tree planting and Gaelic language workshops; the best of Scottish produce; and a packed programme of music and entertainment.
