International Guerilla Gardener Kate Gilliam joins the Edible Gardening Project team at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, providing fresh insight into growing and foraging for food. The event, takes place at the Demonstration Garden (enter via the Botanics North Gate on Inverleith Place).
Visitors to the event starting at 07:30 can enjoy an early morning breakfast of local foods and benefit from an outdoor learning experience where gardening and foraging experts will be on hand to explain more about growing and foraging for food in the City.
The event, aimed at attracting people on their way to work, college or university, starts with a complementary breakfast of rolls and wild herb muffins.
Activities include Seed Bomb making, the beloved weapon of Guerrilla Gardeners, with the Fife Diet and WWF’s Seed Truck.
There will also be wild-food cooking demonstrations, at the outdoor Field Kitchen, as well as the opportunity to learn practical skills for growing fruit and veg at home, from members of the Edible Gardening Project.

This is a unique opportunity to meet Kate Gilliam, who has transformed many neglected areas of New York City into inspiring green spaces for the public to enjoy. She is hoping to spread her enthusiasm for the guerrilla gardening movement to the people of Scotland.
The breakfast is organised as part of the Festival of Dangerous Ideas, a bold venture by Scotland’s Colleges that aims to re-establish the importance of dangerous ideas as agents of change in education, running as part of the Year of Creative Scotland 2012, events will take place across Scotland from the 11-15 June.
