A cast of colourful puppets descend on The Museum of Edinburgh on the Royal Mile this weekend to tell some "daring tales" from Scottish history.
Hamish the Highlander and his fellow puppet friends will star in four free shows inside the historic 16th century building on both Saturday and Sunday.
All the family can enjoy hearing exciting adventures from Scottish history told in a fun and interactive way. Hamish the Highlander, the Jacobite will tell how he tried to capture Edinburgh in 1745 and Eddie the Knight will relive the time he scaled the Edinburgh Castle walls. There's also Reekie the Dragon, the Edinburgh Monk and the Legend of the Last Bear of Scotland.
The Museum's new children's learning space was launched in June when it played host to the launch of the 2009 Old Town Festival. The City of Edinburgh Museums and Edinburgh World Heritage worked together to develop the new facility, which was created so that primary school children can explore their city's history through art and activities.
The new activity space is designed to help children to have fun learning about the Old Town and New Town of the city. They can handle replica objects, dress up in costumes and gowns from the 18th and 19th centuries, join our family activity trail and take part in an array of art activities.
Events are free, although booking is essential for the puppet shows, which will be performed at 12 noon, 1, 2 and 3pm on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September. To book, call 0131 529 3963/2.
