Synth-pop duo Pet Shop Boys will headline Edinburgh's Hogmanay "Concert in the Gardens" on Saturday, 31st December. Tickets go on sale this Friday.
The evergreen duo of Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, one of the UK's biggest bands since the Eighties, has recently returned home from North America, where they played a sold-out co-headline tour with New Order in venues like Madison Square Garden and the Hollywood Bowl.
Pet Shop Boys previously headlined Edinburgh's Hogmanay 2013/2014. The softly singing Tennant, who turned 68 in July and 63-year-old Lowe, have proven to have long-lasting appeal across the generations. At Glastonbury 2022 this Summer (see video above), they earned rave reviews.
“2022 has been an incredible year, when we have loved being able to perform again after the restrictions arising from the pandemic," said Pet Shop Boys. "We can’t think of a better way to round off this year than by celebrating the start of 2023 in Edinburgh.”
Pet Shop Boys are joined by "Special Guest DJs" on the Hogmanay concert billing.
The concert takes place under Edinburgh Castle in Princes Street Garden, at the same time as the Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Street Party. New organiser UniqueAssembly announced last week that this year's Street Party will be limited to 30,000 in the city centre party "arena", rather than the 75,000 of previous years.
UniqueAssembly also announced, last week, a new event, the family-friendly Night Afore Disco Party, will take place in Princes Street Gardens on Friday 30th December 2022.
Pop princess Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Altered Images (fronted by the original singer Clare Grogan from the popular 1980s Scottish band) will be performing in Princes Street Gardens with Forth 1 DJ Boogie bringing dancefloor classics and spot-prize give-aways.
Tickets for the Street Party and the Night Afore Disco Party are already on sale.
Tickets for Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Concert in the Gardens go on sale this Friday 28 October at 10.00am. They are priced at £85 for the enclosure and £70 for Gardens general admission.
