2017’s live music event Nothing Ever Happens Here… is to be headlined by Sarah Neufeld, Summerhall has confirmed.
The Violinist, best known as a member of the band Arcade Fire, has released two albums under her own name, and will be touring her latest album The Ridge to Summerhall on the 3rd February 2017. Neufeld is based in Montréal, Canada and is a founding member of the acclaimed contemporary instrumental ensemble Bell Orchestre. She has recently released new music as half of duo with renowned saxophonist Colin Stetson.
Neufeld’s appearance at Summerhall is the centrepiece of the 2017 line up, preceded by Girl Band, an Irish rock band who produced their debut album last year. They kick off the musical year on 26 January, with support from London’s Goat Girl. After Sarah Neufeld on the 3rd February, it has just been announced – Canadian band Austra round off with the Toronto based band founded by Katie Stelmanis coming to Summerhall as part of their Future Politics tour. Tropic of Cancer come to land on 1st March as part of the band’s European tour as Camilla Lobo continues work on her sophomore album.
There is still plenty going on this year! Nothing Ever Happens Here… has partnered with Shelter for the launch of "The Songbook", a live music event kicking off Friday 16 December and running all day Saturday 17.
A new collection ‘Home for the Holidays’ is a Christmas songbook compiled to raise funds for Shelter Scotland. The songbook now has over 30 tracks, including Frightened Rabbit, Euros Childs, Woodpigeon, Sweet Baboo, This Is The Kit. The launch show at Summerhall will announce its full line up in the week leading up to the event.
To see 2016 out with style, Summerhall turns the Dissection Room into a Soulsville Party Central for an alternative Hogmanay event hosted by The Soul Foundation. The night includes music from the motown and soul scene – all with a live band – to see in the bells at Summerhall. Baby, don’t be cold outside.
