Hidden Door Arts Festival, which last year stepped behind the drab frontages of the Market Street Vaults and produced one of the most innovative arts events to occur in Edinburgh outside of August.
Some 7,500 people experienced this showcasing some of Scotland’s emerging creative talents, in the areas of visual art, music, theatre, dance, film and other disciplines.
This year, from 22-30 May 2015, Hidden Doors will utilise the city’s former street-lighting depot on King’s Stables Road – those spaces past the Calton Terrace Car Park proceeding toward Grassmarket to present another cornucopia of arts events
This seldom-seen area offers considerable potential for multiple use, although due to the nature of using disused buildings, negotiations with the council to confirm the use of the site are ongoing.
However, in order to ensure the future of the Hidden Doors Festival, the festival team have an alternative in place, so this year’s Festival is guaranteed to take place.
David Martin, founder and director of Hidden Door said ‘Hidden Door is about the future of the arts in Scotland, not only creating … opportunities for artists to make their mark and connect with new audiences, but also to open up new places that no one else has dared to touch’.
The festival features approximately 20 theatre and dance productions and a special programme of performance art curated by the Royal Scottish Academy.
Daytime entry is free and evening entertainment is a paid-for ticket. A limited number of Early Bird tickets are available for opening night, on sale before the official programme is announced.
