Set in rural Ireland The Matchmaker is a comedy revolving around Dicky Mick Dick O’Connor’s business of helping lonely individuals find love.
It’s a simple set and there are two actors – Anne Charleston and Jon Kenny – who perform a range of Irish characters all seeking happiness in a bygone age where no telecommunications or mobile phones are present.
It’s a good script, very amusing in parts. His correspondence with his sister in America excludes information about the complexities of dealing with difficult people. But his charges are fair. If a widow contacts him the fee is half price.
It’s a delightful play with marvelous acting but the script should have been edited. It was too long.
