Although not listed in the Fringe programme, the Cowgate Cartoon music show makes perfect Fringe entertainment. Run by Will Pickvance, in the intimate atmosphere of the Underground Café in the Cowgate, each night is a different line-up of musicians and poets. And it's all free (a bucket is passed around).
The night I was there we had a marvellous range of entertainment: jazz piano, an a cappella quartet, a singing recital, the finale of Bruch's violin concerto, with piano accompaniment as opposed a whole orchestra!; a poem to music, trumpet playing, guitarist with female double bass player, piano duets, a baroque guitarist playing flamenco music - and more. It was a great evening.
The show is finished for this Fringe but there will be more events from the Cowgate Cartoon Music show over the autumn.
Performance: 29 August, 8pm-11pm
