Joseph-Maurice Weder, a gifted young Swiss pianist is making his UK debut with the Swiss Ambassador’s Award concert in Edinburgh. He has won Switzerland’s most important study prizes and already performed as a soloist with the South-West German Philharmonia, the Symphony Orchestra Basel, the Chamber Orchestra of City Bratislava and the Young Munich Philharmonia in well-known concert halls such as the Konzerthaus Vienna, the Tonhalle Zurich and the Residenztheater Munich.
The Swiss Ambassador’s Award Concert was established in the UK in 1999 with the aim of presenting talented young Swiss musicians in a concert at Wigmore Hall in London. Due to its popularity and musical excellence, the annual event now also tours in Edinburgh, Cardiff and, for the first time this year, Belfast. The concerts are organised by the Swiss Cultural Fund in Britain and the Embassy of Switzerland, in collaboration with the Swiss Consulates in the UK.
The Swiss Cultural Fund in Britain brings Swiss cultural excellence across many artistic fields to British audiences and contributes to an intercultural dialogue between Switzerland and the United Kingdom. The Fund supports most artistic genres, from music to theatre, the visual arts to performance art and architecture to literature, enabling both young and established artists to present themselves to the public through a wide range of cultural institutions and venues in the United Kingdom.
