Description

The Stockbridge Duck Race, which marks its 22nd birthday in 2010, is an annual, charity-raising competition.

At around 3pm, hundreds of rubber ducks tumble from a bin on the main bridge in Stockbridge into the Water of Leith. Each rubber duck has a number which is noted as wardens catch the ducks further down-stream as they bob and weave cross the finish line. The lucky owners of winning ducks are awarded one of many prizes.

Taking part couldn't be simpler. You simply stump up £1.50 for the ducks which can be bought at most bars, pubs and a few shops in Stockbridge.

There's also an apres-race party at The Antiquary, on nearby St Stephen Street, where prizewinners will be announced.

The chosen charities for 2010 are Stockbridge House, LIFECARE and St Columba's Hospice.
