Believe it or not Edinburgh City Council has a Play Development Unit and a Play Strategy that actively facilitates the simple act of child-play. There are lots of good reasons why play is good: for kids' physical and emotional growth, the development of social and behavioural skills, and bonding.
The free Playday event facilitates all that with a variety of activities involving water and sand, a variety of wheeled bikes, carts and things that move, in four separate play areas in a safe area down in the recently renovated Grassmarket.
