A special free concert by one of Japan’s most exciting young taiko groups & award winners in the all-Japan taiko competition, on their first visit to the UK.
In March 2011 Fukushima suffered one of the worst nuclear disasters in history, with the earthquake, tsunami & subsequent radiation causing devastation to communities in the region. Survivors of this tragedy and award-winning taiko players Uneme Taiko now come to Scotland to join with Scotland’s own Centre for Taiko Drumming – Mugen Taiko Dojo – in a cross-cultural collaboration and a celebration of life.
Uneme Taiko two years running have won silver & gold in the all-Japan taiko championships youth division, and they are aged between 14-18. This concert is presented by Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers and the Consulate General of Japan.
The Mugen Taiko Dojo is the teaching centre and base of UK’s premier professional touring taiko group: Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers. Founded in 2002, it is the first purpose-built taiko dojo in Britain and is located right here in South Lanarkshire. As well as training the next generation of players, several projects come under the umbrella of the Mugen Taiko Dojo: an award-winning, touring educational schools’ concert, educational outreach projects with local authorities all over the UK, and in-depth courses for adults and weekend residential workshops at the dojo.
