Update: It’s with a heavy heart we have decided to cancel Edinburgh Winter Run on January 15th. The uncertainty over the changing Covid situation is causing much disruption to the delivery of a successful, large-scale event. Any existing ticket entries will be fully refunded.

We will be back, fully determined to deliver a truly brilliant Edinburgh Winter Run in 2023. Stay safe.

The Edinburgh Winter Run – an inclusive, fun-filled day of events including a 5km run, Family Mile and Toddler Dash - returns to the capital’s Holyrood Park on Saturday 15 January 2022.

After a period of disruption due to the coronavirus pandemic, the aim of the event is to create a party atmosphere for all participants to enjoy, regardless of ability and age.

The chip-timed 5km, which presents an opportunity for both fun-runners and competitive athletes, follows an undulating single lap course around the iconic Arthur’s Seat. The Family Mile, which takes place on a flat out-and-back stretch of Queen’s Drive, is the perfect opportunity to introduce children to running and to exercise together as a family, while the Toddler Dash is a 100m ‘dash for the line’ for younger children (accompanied by an adult).

Everyone is invited to come resplendent in fancy dress in an attempt to host the largest fancy dress fun run in the UK.

Entry fees vary by event and include a finishers’ beanie hat and an event finishers’ medal for the  Family Mile and Toddlers’ Dash. Early bird discounts are available until 30 November 2021.

In addition to the three running events, samba and steel bands will play against the stunning backdrop of Arthur’s Seat, while local radio DJ’s will motivate and entertain runners throughout the day.

There will also be a variety of stalls selling food, drink and merchandise.

Paul McGreal, Founder of Durty Events, said: “We can’t wait to have some fun and see smiles on faces after such a disruptive couple of years. We intend to go all out with a carnival atmosphere and really dial up the enjoyment factor for everyone, whether they’re participating or spectating.

“We’re inviting everyone to come in fancy dress – although it’s not compulsory – and really hope we can make history as one of the largest fancy dress fun runs in the UK. It’s time to run with fun and we want as many people as possible to be part of it.”
