The Festival Village was a temporary structure that was open in Edinburgh from 2017 to 2023 on Waverley Market.
Its two year contract was extended during Covid-19, but Edinburgh City Council denied the Village permission to continue operating in 2023, as it was considered not in keeping with the historic character of the area and damaging to Edinburgh's World Heritage Site status.
A rooftop beer garden situated atop the modern Waverley Mall shopping complex (at Waverley Station), with free, live music by local musicians and views across to the Old Town to one side and the New Town on the other. Pizza, pub grub, beers and cocktails.
It was open during the Fringe and also at Christmas and Hogmanay with different makeovers and themes. Covered during the festive season, with private domes. In Summer, it's more floral and open to the sunshine.
