An icelandic volcano is causing havoc with air travel after spewing huge plumes of grey, volcanic ash into UK airspace. Edinburgh and Scottish airports have been closed indefinitely by UK Air Traffic Control Services, planes grounded and travellers told to prepare for delays.
An emergency message on the Edinburgh Airport site this morning says:
"Airspace around Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow airports has been closed by the national air traffic service, NATS, as a result of volcanic ash drifting across the United Kingdom from Iceland.
Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow airports are closed until further notice.
Passengers are instructed NOT to travel to the Scottish airports. All arriving and departing flights are currently suspended.
Passengers should check with their airline for further information and should expect disruption in the coming hours. Updates will be issued throughout the morning."
