Organisers of Edinburgh’s four-day Hogmanay festival today announced that The Enemy (pictured) will headline this year’s Hogmanay Street Party on Thursday 31 December.
Performing on the Waverley Stage, the rabble rousing, Coventry band will be accompanied by a line-up of young Scottish bands including the 5-piece Glasgow based Frightened Rabbit, Edinburgh band Stanley Odd featuring rap music that will appeal to jazz junkies, funk fans and hip-hop headz alike and the Edinburgh based 4-piece We Were Promised Jet Packs.
The Waverley Stage will be hosted by special guest DJ BBC Radio Scotland’s Vic Galloway.
Meanwhile, The Cuban Brothers and Glitter Banditz will be at The Mound Party Stage, with special guest DJ The Great Calverto playing host.
These stages will accompany the previously announced West End DJ Stage, which organisers are dubbing "the world’s biggest dance floor", where Scots DJ MYLO will be spinning the sounds with special guest DJs Gary & Tom (Snow Patrol) and Richard Colburn (Belle & Sebastian).
Madness, as previously announced, will be headlining the Concert in the Gardens with the Noisettes on the 31st December. Organisers revealed today that hot new Scottish band Codeine Velvet Club will kick start proceedings - mere days after the band release its debut album in the UK and will be joined by Jon Fratelli's "latest venture."
Taking place on Thursday 31 December, Concert in the Gardens and the Street Party form part of the five days of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay which runs from Tuesday 29 December until Saturday 2 January. This year’s Festival, is shaping up to have one of the strongest programmes since the Millenium: with music, theatre and dance throughout the city centre, both indoors and out with many events free.
The Festival programme begins on Tuesday 29 December with the spectacular Torchlight Procession and, as already announced, the premiere of Off Kilter, a new dance and music extravaganza at the Festival Theatre with 6 performances over 5 days from Tuesday 29 December to Saturday 2 January 2010.
Pete Irvine, Creative Director, Edinburgh’s Hogmanay said: "We’re delighted to announce such strong line-ups for the Street Party – great indie music at The Waverley Stage, great party music on The Party Stage at the top of The Mound and fantastic DJs at the West End DJ Stage. Together with one of the UK’s biggest firework display, lasers and the atmosphere and friendliness that you simply don’t get anywhere else, this years Edinburgh’s Hogmanay is shaping up to be the city’s strongest line-up for years. And remember, there’s much more to announce next week when the details of the full, five day Edinburgh’s Hogmanay programme will be revealed."
Festival organisers will announce the full programme details for the four-day Hogmanay Festival on Tuesday 17 November.
