The crash landing of a British Airways passenger airliner at Heathrow today has caused disruption to flights to and from the airport, including flights connecting with Edinburgh airport.
The incident happened earlier this afternoon. None of the 136 passengers and 16 crew were seriously hurt, although six people were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
BAA reports: "We can confirm that flight BA038, a Boeing 777 arriving from Beijing, carried out an emergency landing at Heathrow Airport today at 12.42. Heathrow’s emergency services attended the scene. The Air Accidents Investigation Branch is attending the scene."
Several hours after the crash, BAA is still carrying a message on its Edinburgh web site about possible delays caused by the "incident at Heathrow":
"Following today's incident at Heathrow it is likely that there will be significant disruption to flights to and from Heathrow. Anyone intending to fly to London Heathrow should check the status of their flight with their airline before leaving for the airport."
