Surrounded by images of the cosmos and a band blending raw vocals, keyboard, drums, cello and a violin, this is a wonderful aural and visual experience. The electro-pop music enhances the projections and there is a soothing feeling of being bathed in music while projections loom large around us. We are in the eye of the storm where it is quieter, but the music still rages around us like notes on the run, swirling.
The four-strong band including K Mak (Kathryn McKee herself are all brilliant musicians, with the battles between the cello and the violin thrilling to watch. The images change sequence, as a different one accompanies every new song. We move around the cosmos and the world in general to explore the sound and feel of it, as K Mak’s slightly gravelly, lived-in soundtrack.
The audience is very polite, not applauding each song until we realise it is ok to do so. After a chat from K Mak, we engage more as we know we have permission to appreciate the band’s work. Favourite visuals include the flower blooms that are half-blossoming when we start, but quickly bloom into being by the end of the song. Other visuals include bubbles, rain, water sparkling and the more obscure psychedelic backgrounds, which ebb and flow, drawing us in. With several shows a day, this is a great way to spend an hour simply relaxing and letting yourself be at one with the music.
