For those who fly frequently to and from Edinburgh, most will have welcomed the upgrading and development of Edinburgh Airport, although some will have reservation about the one pound charge for dropping off passengers.
I personally have very much limited my trips by car to the Airport to collect or pick up visitors - not because I am mean (I hope!) but really because of the excellent bus service run by Lothian Bus Airport Express service (No 100). Unless your visitors are extremely elderly or disabled, there is no point in adding to the congestion and traffic at the Airport or on the routes there and back. The Airlink Service is efficient, comfortable, quick and relatively cheap; it is highly recommended to all visitors!
Inside the Airport itself the airline check-in system seems to function pretty efficiently on a day-to-day basis and I have never had to wait for a long period. I may have been fortunate, but this is the impression I have.
Moving on to the security services, these operate smoothly and generally there is little hold up. This is in sharp contrast to Heathrow which seem a nightmare - even in the British Airways Terminal 5.
After the security checks one is free to explore the new layout of shops and catering facilities. All these seem to be of a reasonable standard, although I must confess that I have never been delayed long enough to have to test them fully! I do, however, miss the French coffee and snack outlet called "Paul's" which served very good coffee and coissants.
All in all, I would rate Edinburgh as giving the traveller a very satisfactory travelling experience and providing something of a respite to Heathrow's trials and tribulations.
