The University of Edinburgh returns to the Edinburgh Science Festival with free events, workshops and shows aimed at children and families. Discover Science 2010, running for the duration of the Science Festival (8th-17th April), takes place at the National Museum of Scotland, and Adam House, Chambers Street.
Adam House, now in its second year of hosting events, will be hosting three floors of activities, workshops and shows, including hands-on SCI-FUN activities.
Highlights include Fringe performer Helen Keen’s show "It is Rocket Science!" for 13 years and older, which is described as "a whistlestop tour around the Great Brains who put monkeys, ladies, dogs and gentlemen into orbit."
Madcap children's entertainer Dr Bunhead returns with the ‘Natural Disaster show’ exploring "some of the mightiest and strangest science experiments and what happens when they go wrong."
Among other shows, some of which are free but ticketed, is Glasgow Science Centre’s ‘Game On-The Science Of Sport’ which reveals the effects of sport and exercise on the body, the ‘Chemistry Show, Carbon Capture: Who cares. We care!’ and the interactive ‘Ancient Senses in a Modern World.’
Discover Science will also be returning to the National Museum of Scotland for a programme of drop in events in Hawthornden Court and in the Special Exhibition Gallery. No tickets are required for events such as ‘Why are ‘Superbugs’ Super?’, ‘Fire and Ice’ and ‘R2D2-Where Are You?
However, you are advised to book in advance for the popular workshop programme which takes place in the Museum and at Adam House.
