This year's winner of the prestigious Best Comedy Show at Dave Edinburgh Comedy Awards is off-the-wall, stand-up comic Sam Campbell with his minimally titled show Comedy Show.

The Best Newcomer Award went to Mexican-born American Lara Ricote (above) for her show GRL/LATNX/DEF in which she jokes about being female, Latin, and having a hearing disability.

Both Campbell and Ricote have been performing at the Monkey Barrel at the Fringe.

A Spirit of the Fringe Award was given to Best in Class, a show that supports and showcases working-class comedians who might otherwise be unable to access the Fringe.

This was the 40th anniversary of the Edinburgh Comedy Awards, produced by Nica Burns. The awards were formerly sponsored by Perrier and are currently sponsored by comedy channel Dave. The awards ceremony took place at the  Dovecot Studios yesterday afternoon.

This is the fifth time an Australian has won the award. Campbell also took home £10,000 prize money.
