When the front rows of the audience take their seats, the first thing they will notice are the Emergency Stakes that have been supplied. This is the first hint of the fun that is to follow with this high-energy full-octane romp through all 7 seasons (144 episodes) of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Presented by Spike – a flawless Brendan Murphy – the blonde-headed vampire from the show, it is a hilarious look at the key moments from the seasons: there are only 70 minutes to do this in. There is a little audience participation and Murphy keeps the banter going to ensure that everyone has a good time.
You do not need to be a diehard Buffy fan to enjoy this show – even if you only remembered vague parts of the series, it will all come flooding back as Murphy flings on wigs, assorted clothing and whirls around the stage re-creating the main characters and some of the heroes and villains that popped up along the way. It takes skill to be able to keep on track of, and portray convincingly, the sheer volume of characters, changes and story plots that the 7 seasons contained.
There are enough current pop culture references to keep everyone amused and they work well within the universe of Sunnydale, with the song about slayers a highlight. The entire show is slick but maintains the right level of tongue-in-cheek humour that will keep hardcore fans and not-so-hardcore fans happy. Beware: it will make you want to binge-watch the entire 7 seasons in full.
