Breakfast shows are a staple of the Fringe – free tea or coffee and a croissant, together with some theatre makes for a great start to the day. With The Big Bite-Size Breakfast Show you will not be disappointed. Three different menus (different sets of plays on different days) means that audiences can return on more than one occasion and enjoy a variety of entertainment (the coffee and croissant are lovely). However, the best elements of the show are of course the plays on offer: five 10-minute shows.

It takes a special skill to be able to tell a story in only 10 minutes and have the audience not only emphasise with the story, but also manage to complete the tale to a good conclusion within those brief minutes. The five stories shared on the day of review did this very well. From a hilarious on-point look at celebrity culture via a NASA initiative, to a comment on love in a time period when love had to look a particular way, to a cuckoo in the nest, to the challenges of travel and a silly take on fortune cookies, there was love, loss and an exploration of human nature.

The venue, although the seating was on a rake, had some sight issues, partly due to the full audience, so some of the action on stage was not always visible. Despite this, the sharp writing, the strong acting and the variety of stories told kept the audience on their toes and ensured that a good time was had by all. All in all, good value for money and a lovely way to start at a day at the Fringe, watered, fed and entertained.
