Description

A highlight of Edinburgh’s festive calendar, Challenge Scotland’s popular Edinburgh Christmas Events are making a welcome return for 2012.

And children’s charity the NSPCC invites you to help support its work with vulnerable children and families in Scotland, by joining hundreds of people as they walk, run and toddle around the city’s Inverleith Park on Sunday, December 2.

Whether you do it on your own, with family, friends or colleagues, there’s an event to suit everyone and it’s sure to be a great day out for all.

The Edinburgh Christmas Walk is a six-mile walk starting and finishing in Inverleith Park. Walkers will set off at 11am, taking in the beautiful surrounds of Edinburgh’s Royal Botanic Garden, the peaceful Water of Leith and the village atmosphere of Stockbridge. Even dogs are welcome to enter – thought they must be kept under strict control at all times.

For those in need of a more energetic start to the day, there’s the Edinburgh Christmas run, which starts and finishes in Inverleith Park. Runners will set off at 9.30am and cover a distance of 5k.

The Golden Tinsel Mile Walk is perfectly suited to all abilities and an ideal option for families. It will start at 11.30am, and participants can choose to walk or stroll a distance of 1, 2 or 3 miles.

The Santa Toddle is a walk for the "little ones" aged six years and under. Santa will arrive in Inverleith Park at 1pm, before the Santa Toddle Parade starts at 1:30pm. Adults can even bring their little one along to meet Santa after completing their own walk or run.

NSPCC Scotland community fundraising manager, Susie Barron, said: “This is a great way to get festive with family and friends, and make a real difference in the run up to Christmas.”

She added: “By taking part in the walk, run or golden tinsel mile walk for the NSPCC you’ll save £10 off the usual entry fee, whilst helping to raise vital funds to support our work in Scotland. This includes being there for children through ChildLine – the 24-hour helpline and online service for children and young people. It will also help fund the NSPCC’s new services for children and families north of the border; bringing help, advice and treatment to families of children at risk or to children who have been abused.”

The NSPCC is here to end cruelty to children in Scotland and across the UK by fighting for their rights, listening to them, helping them when they need us and making them safe.

We provide national services such as ChildLine and our Helpline for concerned adults to provide support for all children. Our local services focus on the most acute forms of abuse and the most vulnerable, highest risk children working in areas such as physical abuse or children under one so that we can bring help, advice and treatment to children at risk or those who have been abused.
