Amber Alert: WARNING some seriously great music due to thunder across Perthshire from 26 October
A storm of fantastic music and culture will be sweeping through Perthshire as Dougie MacLean’s music extravaganza Perthshire Amber is set to thrill music fans once more.
The ten day festival, which starts on 26th October will feature over 250 musicians performing in 25 fantastic venues throughout beautiful autumnal Perthshire. The varied venues span from the tiny Iron Age Crannog on Loch Tay to the atmospheric Blair Castle and from historic Dunkeld Cathedral to the cultural hub of Perth Concert Hall.
The festival’s captivating line-up for 2012 includes the stunningly talented Julie Fowlis, the vibrant sounds of the Blazin’ Fiddles, the mesmerising voice of Emily Smith and the multi-talented ‘BBC Folk Musician of the Year 2012’ Tim Edey. And, of course, the internationally renowned singer-songwriter and composer Dougie MacLean performs solo and in various musical combinations in 11 of the 18 festival concerts.

“It’s a great time of year in Perthshire, the leaves are turning and these gorgeous crisp mornings we are having are so inspiring, the festival team just can’t wait for it all to begin. One of the highlights for me last year was the Strings and Choirs Concert at Perth Concert Hall and I’m so glad to be taking part in that concert again for 2012. There has been a lot of rehearsing with the choirs and we’ve developed lots of new and exciting arrangements, which I hope will make for a stunning night of music. I’m also very excited about welcoming back some old friends for the Dougie MacLean and Friends Concert, which is always such good fun.”

A new addition for 2012 festival is the Amber Afternoons series, which will showcase stellar quality music, in intimate, unusual and relaxed venues including Innerpeffray Library (Scotland’s oldest library), the 14th century Fair Maid’s House, The Garden Room at Hilton Dunkeld and Methven Castle. The Amber Afternoons will give visitors the opportunity to enjoy exceptional music, against the backdrop of some of the best autumnal views in Perthshire.
