The Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Fest was striking a more mainstream note today at "Mardi Gras," the free jazz event down in the Grassmarket.
When I got there several old-boys bands were energetically tooting out
some Dixie Swing and New Orleans style jazz from aboard a line of lorry
trailers that formed temporary stages.
The assembled throng seemed to be lapping up the music, as well as a
rare appearance by the sun and steady flow of beer from neighbouring
pubs.
