The Scottish Chamber Orchestra, led by conductor Garry Walker, open the Festival Fireworks Concert 2014 in Princes Street Gardens with Wagner's Flight of the Valkyries from Die Walküre.
The concert continued this year's "war" theme with Debussy's rousing March Écossaise, the stormy passions of Beethoven's Egmont Overture and the memorable 'War March of the Priests' from Mendelssohn's Athalie.
It climaxed with Tchaikovsky's thunderous 1812 Overture, written to celebrate Russia's deliverance from Napoleon's invading armies. As if on cue, the clouds opened up as the last big bangs exploded in the sky.
The Edinburgh International Festival finishes each year with the Fireworks Concert.
