Dinner for a tenner: Mon-Thu: 18:00-19:30.
Hewat's is a hidden gem, a friendly, familly run, neighbourhood restaurant in the heart of the Meadows and Newington area. This is a destination for foodies. Surrounded by second hand furniture and book shops, takeaways and cafes, you might just pass the door. So look out for the blue, red and white windows and step inside.
Rather like the Tardis, the entrance opens up into a classically designed room with stunning décor, chandeliers and art: first a cosy lounge bar leading through to the main restaurant. Warm, claret, “eating room red” painted walls are complemented by a fine collection of contemporary paintings which creates an intimate, homely ambience. White linen draped, candlelit tables are well spaced over two levels, with a quirky alcove for private dining.
Chef Richard Hewat presents his own inventive, modern Scottish cuisine highlighting seasonal seafood, steak, game and vegetarian dishes. Exquisite food, charming service and great value menus for lunch and dinner. Perfect location for an early supper before a concert at the Queen's Hall nearby.
