About the venue
The Masonic Hall at 19 Hill Street was purchased by the Lodge of Edinburgh (Mary's Chapel) in 1893, and was amalgamated with part of number 17 Hill Street, after the Lodge bought it in 1911.
The interior has a number of distinctive markings and historic features, such as Masonic symbols and a sundial in the oak-panelled lodge room, as you might expect from an order whose minutes trace back to July 1599 (the oldest minute of a still-extant Lodge).
The venue, which can be found just off Frederick Street, is often privately rented out for special events during the year and in August, during the Fringe, it becomes the Assembly Hill Street Theatre
