While for some Edinburgh has almost become synonymous with its annual August arts festivals, its Winter Festivals programme has also expanded in recent years.
Traditionally, the Scots have celebrated Hogmanay on 31st December more than Christmas. Edinburgh celebrates both in characteristically large fashion, with outdoor street parties, fairs, attractions, and events.
It's always been something of a risk for Edinburgh organisers as the often inhospitable Decemeber weather can put a dampner on festivities. But then Edinburgh does have plentiful number of bars, restaurants, cinemas, and nightclubs providing indoor options, not to mention the plethora of house parties that take place throughout the festive period.
