As part of her farewell British Isles' tour, The Queen Elizabeth 2, or QE2 as she is commonly known will make her final voyage in Scottish waters in the Forth Estuary on 7 October.
Crowds are expected to gather along the coastlines of Edinburgh and Fife to celebrate her final send off. Also planned is a fly-over by RAF Leuchars, a flotilla of boats from the local yacht club and tugs with a water display.
These events are being organised by The City of Edinburgh Council in partnership with Fife Council, Forth Ports and Cunard. Details of the best places to view the vessel will be published nearer the time.
Winners of a competition, taking place in September, will be invited aboard the ship.
Lord Provost, George Grubb, said: "We are extremely proud that the QE2 is making its final voyage in Scottish waters so close to Edinburgh in the Forth Estuary. The competition we are running will provide a great opportunity for people of all ages to go on board this historic vessel. We are planning a spectacular and fitting send off for the QE2 and one which everyone in Edinburgh can come out and enjoy."
The QE2 will berth off the Edinburgh/Fife coastline in the Forth estuary from 10am and will leave the same evening at 6pm to sail down to Southampton before making her final voyage to New York, continuing on to Dubai. The vessel will then be de-commissioned and berthed at a specially constructed pier at the world's largest man-made island, The Plam Jumeriah. Afterwards, the ship will begin a new life as a luxury floating hotel, retail and entertainment destination.
