Two award winning theatre Scottish companies, Catherine Wheels and Borderline, in collaboration with present Edinburgh International Science Festival, announce the debut of two high quality pieces of theatre for families that take a fresh approach to science as a part of the action.
Developed in partnership with children’s international festival imaginate, this new project called Science in the Spotlight, aims to bring together the wonder of theatre and the explosive world of science communication.
Amanda Tyndall, Creative Director of Edinburgh International Science Festival said, “We’re delighted to be presenting Science in the Spotlight at our 2016 Festival. As an organisation we aim to encourage everyone to become inspired by the wonders of science and technology and these new shows offer an accessible and exciting way of bringing science to families, via the wonders of theatre. It’s also fantastic that we are able to work with Borderline and Catherine Wheels, two of the country’s best theatre companies, on this project.”
The two pieces that will premiere at the 2016 Edinburgh International Science Festival are Lost at Sea from Catherine Wheels Theatre Company and Uncanny Valley from Borderline Theatre Company & Ayr Gaiety Theatre.
em>Lost at Sea is about a boy and a girl, fascinated by the story of 28,000 bath toys that accidentally ended up flung into the unrelenting currents of the Pacific Ocean. Their investigation sees them uncovering the mysteries of the sea and discovering its importance to every one of us on Earth. Inspired by real events and the book Moby Duck, this is show is suitable for young audiences aged 8 and over. Uncanny Valley, written by Rob Drummond, is an interactive show for 8-12 year olds that asks you, the audience, to interact with a real ‘live’ robot and help to tell the story of Ada and her best friend OKAY (Outstandingly Knowledgeable Android Youth) who is under threat of being terminated and the only way to stop this is to prove he or she is exactly the same as you or me.
