Reginald Rose’s Twelve Angry Men originated as a television play and has been successfully adapted for film, radio and stage. The 1957 Academy Award nominated film version that starred and was produced by Henry Fonda, is lauded as one of the great ‘must-see’ movies of all time.
In 2015 Tom Conti, one of the most respected and celebrated actors of his generation, will play the pivotal role that Fonda took, Juror no. 8, in Bill Kenwright’s production of the classic piece. Following the show’s record-breaking run at the Garrick Theatre in the West End it goes on a UK tour that includes dates at the King’s Theatre Edinburgh.
Conti has appeared as myriad characters on both the big and small screens as well as on stage and is known for films such as Heavenly Pursuits, Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence and Shirley Valentine with recent movies including The Dark Knight Rises and Street Dance. Awards include an Olivier Award, a Tony Award for his stage performance in Whose Life is it Anyway? and a Best Actor Oscar nomination for his role in Reuben Reuben . He was recently jointly voted the Most Popular Actors in London’s West End in the last 25 years with Dame Judi Dench.
Twelve Angry Men follows twelve jurors who have to decide the fate of a young delinquent accused of killing his father. But what appears to be an open and shut case soon becomes a dilemma for the twelve, as their prejudices and preconceived ideas about the accused emerge in this tense drama that leads to a nail-biting climax.
Looks like a thrilling theatrical start to 2015!
