The BBC this morning rolled out a new design for the news sections of their web site in response to the increasing use of bigger monitors and wider screen settings of its millions of users.
BBC News Website Editor Steve Herrman writes on The Editors blog:
"We've been working on this for the past few months, and in fact it is still a work in progress, because the changes will continue to roll out across the site in the coming days and weeks, and beyond that we have further improvements planned for later in the year."
The larger content area is centrally justified rather than flushed to the left of the screen as in the past, and the new design allows for the use of bigger images.
Herrmann writes that the BBC's extensive video and audio content will now be incorporated within the page rather than within a separate viewer.
"This should significantly improve ease of use, and should also enhance your experience when following a story - the text, stills, graphics and video should work better together as an integrated whole - and our journalists will be able to adapt their storytelling to make best use of video within the narrative, rather than apart from it."
Although each news item incorporates the wider design, landing pages such as the BBC Scotland home page have still to be affected by the revamp.
