A special show attempting to tell the story of Scotland's multicultural history using film, music, dance, poetry and song will be performed by young people from Scotland and around the world as part of the St Andrews Day celebrations on 30th November.
Our Scotland looks at Scottish history in a global context over the last two thousand years, from the Picts and Romans to the present day. The event, which is being staged at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, is part of Making Connections - Celebrating Diversity, a series of activities for children and young people to explore issues of cultural diversity and migration as a two-way process.
The show, scripted by Raymond Raszkowski Ross and directed by Tony Cownie, features a samba band, a Gaelic choir, break-dancers with a bhangra soundtrack,
musicians from Ghana, Chinese dance, contemporary dance with a
Scottish/African fusion and an Irish ceilidh band together with Polish,
Yiddish and Italian music as it maps the
Scottish diaspora across the globe.
Described as a "story of immigration and emigration, of poverty and wealth, war and peace" it is narrated by James MacPherson (Taggart) and Diana Milford (STV Scotland Today).
Tickets to Our Scotland are £4 (£2.50 concession) and can be purchased from the Royal Lyceum Theatre box office. The show starts at 7.30 pm Friday 30 November 2007 at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.
