Taste of Edinburgh, the 3-day local food and drink industry festival, announced that this year's event will be free to children under the age of 12 with a paying adult.
Returning to The Meadows from 6th – 8th July, Taste of Edinburgh organisers expect to attract 30,000 foodies travel for a mixture of fine dining, imbibing, culinary workshops, and entertainment.
This year's event will be offering hands on AEG Perfekt Children’s Cooking Classes with the Edinburgh School of Food & Wine.
All ages will have the opportunity to get creative in the kitchen and pick up top tips from Edinburgh School of Food & Wine chef and tutor, Steve Brown.
Show manager, Francesca Weil said: “With award-winning producers, suppliers and experts from across the country gathering together at The Meadows, there is no better opportunity for children to get hands on and learn about fresh, seasonal Scottish produce. Our event programme has been designed with this in mind – from children’s cookery courses to engaging demonstrations we hope families come along and get their little ones involved.”
Stuart Muir, Executive Chef at Forth Floor restaurant, is one of 16 chefs in this year's line-up. He helped launch Taste's free-for-under-12s initiative yesterday with a culinary workshop on healthy eating and seasonality with children from Hermitage Park Primary in Edinburgh.
“It's incredibly important to inspire a new generation of cooks and ambassadors for Scotland’s natural larder which is without a doubt one of the best in the world," said Muir.
"I hope that parents throughout Scotland use this year’s Taste of Edinburgh as an opportunity to bring their kids along. It’s another helpful step to educating children about where their food comes from and encouraging them to try cooking locally sourced ingredients themselves from a young age.”
