The young people of Youth Music Theatre Scotland produced a series of numbers and scenes to a high standard: good singing, sharp and creative moves, with the cast well-supported by a band of young musicians.
The story is based on the famous legend of the Pied Piper of Hamelin, who led the town's children away never to return. However, the concept of linking the missing children of Hamelin with children lost through atrocities and disasters did not work for me.
The production was supported by a multi-media presentation culminating in the question ‘Who was the Pied Piper’ being posed?
The collage of portraits seemed a bit strange and some of those included would not be happy to be linked with others shown.
The presentation was supposed to have been developed over some time but to be honest it looked like it had a way to go to even meet the advertised running time.
The cast and band can be pleased with their performances, but the overall production would have benefited from an external input.
Runs to 10th Aug, 7pm
