The programme changes every day at the Queens Hall during the International Festival period, but all concerts involve chamber music with soloists, duos, trios, quartets and quintets.
This concert was with two accomplished French musicians - Paul Meyer on clarinet and Eric le Sage on piano. The pieces they chose to perform - two Sonatas for piano and clarinet by Brahms; a Sonatina by Bohuslav Martinu; Dance Preludes by Witold Lutoslawski; and Four Pieces Op 5 by Alban Berg - varied in style and structure and enhanced the beautiful tonal quality both these musicians exude from their instruments.
The Lutoslawski five Dance Preludes and Berg's Four Pieces in particular, with their idiosyncratic compositions, brought out the sensitive sound Meyer effortlessly produces on his clarinet. A well chosen programme mixing traditional with modern they complemented one another with their flawless playing.
