Description

Join Scotland's first kilomathon of 26.2 Kilometres (16.3 miles) and help raise vital funds for Meningitis Research Foundation (MRF).

The first Scottish Kilomathon will take place in Edinburgh on October 3 2010, starting and finishing in the Royal Highland Show Grounds at Ingliston. It will wind its way through the picturesque area of South Queensferry and take runners across and back over the iconic Forth Road Bridge.

This is a unique event which offers runners the opportunity to be part of a World’s First! It is a perfect race distance if training for a marathon or as a standalone race distance for experienced runners and novices alike.

Entry is FREE, all we ask is that runners aim to raise a minimum sponsorship of £400 to help MRF continue its vital research into the detection, prevention & treatment of meningitis and septicaemia.

There are around 3,300 cases of meningitis and septicaemia – the blood poisoning form of the disease, every year in the UK. This means a death still occurs almost every day and a further two people are left with severe after effects, such as brain damage, hearing loss and amputations.

MRF also provides education to the public about signs, symptoms and action that must be taken, as well as offering befriending and support.
