Edinburgh City Council is warning people that a number of roads will be subject to closures and parking restrictions over the next few days.
Restrictions will be progressively introduced starting tomorrow as the city prepares for the three-day Edinburgh’s Hogmanay festivities. Parking restrictions will be indicated by “No Waiting” cones, and where appropriate, warning signs.
Any changes to road closures and/ or parking restrictions will be advertised by way of street notices and on the Council web site.
Road Closures: 30 December 2012
For the Torchlight Procession, Chambers St will close at 10am.The remainder of the procession route will close at 6pm. The route moves along Chambers St, Bank St, South Bridge, North Bridge, Waterloo Pl, Regent Road to Carriage Drive up Calton Hill.
South Bridge will reopen at 8.30pm with the rest of the route opening at 10pm, with the exception of Chambers St which will remain closed until midnight.
Parking restrictions will commence at 3:30pm for the route and from 6.30pm on 29 December on Chambers Street.
Road Closures: 31 December 2012
Princes Street (between South Charlotte St and South St David St) and Frederick St (between Rose St and George St) will close from 6pm on 30 December to allow for the building of infrastructure.
Waverley Bridge will close at 1pm on 31 December to allow construction of infrastructure.
Bank Street, North Bank Street, Mound and Hanover Street (from Princes St to Rose St) will close at 4pm on 31 December.
The High Street, St Giles Street and George IV Bridge (northbound) will close at 4pm on 31 December.
Princes St (from South St David St to North Bridge), Rose Street, St Andrew Sq (except buses), Lawnmarket and Cockburn Street, Lothian Road (from West Approach Road to Princes St) and South Charlotte Street will close at 7pm
George Street will be closed at 9.45pm
Leith Street (from Calton Rd to Waterloo Pl), Waterloo Place andNorth and South Bridge will close at 10pm.
Roads will reopen at 10am on 1 January (Lothian Road earlier)
Parking restrictions will (in most cases) commence three hours prior to the introduction of road closures.
