It was a case of Olympian human power winning over motorised Formula 1 power in this year's Sports Personality of the Year as triple Olympic gold medal winner Chris Hoy lifted the coveted BBC Sports Personality of the Year trophy last night.
"I really didn't expect this," said Edinburgh-born Hoy, who trained at Meadowbank stadium. "You think back to when you started off in the sport and now I am
sitting here as Sports Personality of the Year, when I have sat and
watched the programme all these years, it's crazy."
Hoy beat 21-year-old Forumla 1 racer Lewis Hamilton and 19-year-old Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington to the award.
