The National Lottery Project of the Year is described as the country’s biggest and best award ceremony, championing everything that’s great about Scotland.
This year, representatives from Glasgow’s Got Soul choir and Edinburgh’s Lung Ha Theatre Company representing the arts will attend a star-studded event on Saturday October 29th along with The Sorted Project from Edinburgh and Pits, Ponies, People and Stories based in South Lanarkshire. On that night, they’ll find out if they’ve won the Great Scot Award where that will be presented by Olympic swimmer Dan Wallace.
Founded in 2012 with help from National Lottery(NL) funding, Got Soul aims to bring people together and out of isolation. The project comprises of two 14-week singing workshops culminating in a ‘grand finale’ community concert. Currently, over 400 people from all walks of life, are taking part in the workshops and rehearsals in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee in anticipation of their big performance on Saturday 10th December at the Usher Hall.
Established in 1984, Edinburgh based Lung Ha Theatre Company is a leading theatre company for people with learning disabilities, in Scotland and internationally that benefits from NL support. Since its inception the company has produced more than 45 professional theatre productions and given more than 300 performers the opportunity to tour and perform in some of Scotland’s best-loved theatres as well as staging international performances.
Jackie O’Sullivan of NL said, “The National Lottery Project of The Year is a great way to celebrate lottery-funded projects who are making a life changing difference in their local communities… “can only be one winner of the 2016 Great Scot National Lottery Project of the Year award but all of the finalists are worthy winners for the amazing work they do. The National Lottery wishes them all the very best.”
Since it began in 1994, NL funds have supported more than 61,000 projects in Scotland.
