An adaptation of the play The Beautiful Cosmos of Ivor Cutler, originally produced in 2014 by Glasgow based theatre company Vanishing Point and the National Theatre of Scotland, has been adapted by Sandy Grierson and Matt Thomson and will be broadcast this coming Sunday 3 July on BBC Radio 3 at 9pm.
Over the years, Ivor Cutler’s song Going in a Field had been improvised in Vanishing Point workshops to get the creative juices going, and the idea of creating a show about Ivor had been something of a refrain for the company’s artistic director, Matthew Lenton, and regular creative associate, Sandy Grierson, who stars as the Glasgow poet and songwriter. Through Cutler’s own words and music, the production distils the unique essence and singular surreal humour of the unforgettable Ivor Cutler.
The Radio play reunites the original cast Sandy Grierson, Elicia Daly and Ed Gaughan with music once again directed and performed by James Fortune and a talented band of musicians. It will be directed by Matt Thomson and is a Rockethouse Production for BBC Radio 3.
