Barely will the last piece of tinsel be swept away, the last piece of panto greasepaint wiped from their faces, and their outrageous costumes discarded than the comic trio that is Allan Stewart, Andy Gray and Grant Stott will get ready to tread the boards again with the world premiere of a new comedy.
Best known for playing the principal stars in the King’s panto in Edinburgh, these three will star in a brand new Scottish play Canned Laughter especially written by Ed Curtis. Curtis, who has directed the Kings Theatre Panto for the last three years is best known for his work on I Dreamed a Dream, Never Forget and Jolson and Co. This piece, Canned Laughter, is about three comedians, Alec, Angus and Rory, (played by three comedians!) on a hilarious journey from the 1970s to the present day.
Co-producer Neil Laidlaw, said, “When Ed came to me with the idea of Allan, Andy and Grant being in a play together I jumped at the chance. I’ve seen them on stage together many times before and I know that the chemistry the three of them have together is going to create a hilarious night at the theatre”
Stott and Gray have already teamed up in comic drama with two Gilded Balloon shows, the award winning and brilliantly funny Fringe show Kiss Me Honey, Honey from the pen of Phil Meeks that they followed in 2015 by Ian Pattison’s Willie and Sebastian , but this looks like a first for the three to be together in a non- panto production.
Stott said, “To take the relationship formed over years of doing panto together into a play across Scotland just seems like a dream to me. …”
