With the festival behind us and three months to go to Christmas Day, it’s time to promote this festive Musical coming to the Edinburgh Festival Theatre for a five week season (29th November to 4th January).
The cast includes several well-known faces from television: Wendi Peters, Steven Houghton (both Coronation Street) and Graham Cole, (The Bill), and many screen and stage performances.
Irving Berlin's “White Christmas” is a stage version of the classic 1954 film starring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye and Rosemary Clooney. The musical storyline is about two former GI soldiers who travel to Vermont to perform their song-and-dance act in a show to help the fortunes of a Country Inn; a heart-warming tale of Army friendships and sweet romance.
As an alternative to pantomime, this is an old-fashioned, all singing-all dancing entertainment for the whole family with such famous Berlin songs as Blue Skies, How Deep is the Ocean, Sisters, White Christmas and many others.
Broadway comes to Edinburgh in this full scale production: an 18 piece orchestra, 30 cast members, 200 costumes, 75 wigs, 15 technical staff as well as 24 local people.
It’s described as a fast paced show with numerous set and costume changes, the company kept on their toes, especially for the neatly choreographed tap dance numbers.
Graham Cole (who plays General Waverly) has performed in around 29 pantomimes so this will be a refreshing change this year. He loves entertaining families and children to bring magic and laughter to the theatre. “White Christmas has heart” he says.
A glamorous, romantic, nostalgic musical with everyone singing along - that’s the promise of this sparkling show.
