As the Traverse Theatre gears up for its 50th anniversary year in 2013, Puppet Animation Scotland and the Traverse announce the most ambitious programme yet for the Manipulate Visual Theatre Festival 2013.
This season of performance and film from around the world, under the direction of Simon Hart, sees the festival grow from one to two weeks at the Traverse and extend its reach with dates at Fife’s Lochgelly Centre, Aberdeen’s Lemon Tree and Norwich Puppet Theatre.
The sixth annual festival of international theatre, puppetry, animation and film this year showcases epic storytelling and explores the future of puppetry and animation in the digital age.
The performance programme features work from England, Estonia, Finland, Israel, the Netherlands, Russia, Scotland and the USA, plus a film programme with an equally global scope.
The Festival opens on 3 February with a cabaret at Edinburgh’s Summerhall with Netherlands based Carles Casallachs’ Sal Y Samba and ends on 16 February after their four night run with Scotland’s Vox Motus’ Slick.
The dates in-between bring examples of radical visual theatre art forms that, going by previous years of manipulate, promise diverse and exciting entertainment.
Several of the shows will be reviewed on EdinburghGuide.com so watch out for these in coming days.
